A group of 5 stayed at Chateau Devaux for a week and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The property overlooks the sea and it was wonderful to sit on the patio for breakfast and whale watch. I liked the fact that it was very spacious and airy. Everything was well maintained and Maran was extremely kind, helpful and accommodating to our many queries. We were shown around the local area and our tours/activities were booked for us.
The Ziplining in the rainforest and Catamaran adventure (including a trip to the mud baths & sulphur springs) are a must do.
We would definitely return and recommend this property to pretty much anyone who is looking to spend time with friends and family.
Our family of 5 adults (and some visitors) spent two months at Chateau Devaux and leaving was the only bad part of our stay. Maran and Richard and their staff were always available for great ideas, remedies to problems, etc. The house is such a lovely retreat. We literally lived outside on the expansive wrap-around veranda with its view across the water to Martinique. And the sounds of surf on the cliffs below was especially soothing for jangled city nerves! The house is in a quietly secluded residential neighborhood: no traffic noise at all. Chateau Devaux's location just cannot be beat, not only in terms of the ocean vista, but because of the close proximity to Rodney Bay's attractive amenities. Just a few minutes drive and traffic is blissfully easy, even if you aren't accustomed to driving on the left. Grocery shopping was outstanding and reasonably priced for US imports and local products were excellent.
The house is very well equipped and when I needed something, Maran was quick to help. It's clean and well organized, hugely spacious, and nicely furnished. Plenty of space for a large group. Internet wifi works very well, which was important because one of our sons has an Internet based business, so it was important to have a fast dependable connection. Aside from the pool, cleaned twice a week, the pool table and flat screens were great for home entertainment.
If I had to find a problem, it might have been the three little birds that seemed to think they were part of the family. We found that a plastic spray water bottle helped to keep them at a distance.
Small price to pay for an outstanding vacation retreat. This is a well cared for home with owners who are responsive and hospitable. Enjoy yourselves!
In September 2012 we spend our vacation in this villa (fully equipped) at St. Lucia. We were with 4 children and 5 adults. There was a minivan also available with the house and we all fit in the car. The house was excellent, the kids enjoyed the pool and the adults enjoyed the view. At arrival we had a meal all prepared for us, so we don't need to worry about it at the first day after a long trip.
We went on several tours on the island and even on a boat trip to spot dolphins. This all was also arrange by Maran and Richard (owners) who are very very kind and friendly. This is a wonderful place and is definitely a must when you plan to visit St. Lucia.
Wow - what a holiday! We looked at the reviews from previous guests, but never expected such a fantastic holiday. There are not enough superlatives to describe this villa, its position, its layout, its location and above all the care taken to ensure that we had a truly memorable holiday.
From the moment we contacted Maran, we felt that she gave us her utmost attention, ensuring even the finest details were looked after and that everything ran like clockwork. The car was organised (including the permit on the first morning), the fridge was stocked, the restaurants were recommended and even the trips were mapped out. Nothing felt like too much trouble.
The villa itself is simply wonderful - the pool is refreshing, the deck and gardens spacious, the shade and seating areas of the patio welcoming, the views become etched in your memory. Everything has been planned to the finest detail. The indoor garden, the en-suites, the games room, the airy and light lounge. The villa has everything for a family or large group. We even sampled the bananas and coconuts from the gardens.
Maran and Richard and their family make you feel so welcome and treat you like friends. Shanta cooks and cleans and is so friendly.
The position of the villa means that it is 10 minutes from the main tourist areas, the beaches and the shops, yet it feels like your own calm, peaceful and serene paradise. The use of the car means that you can 'nip' to the beach and a few minutes later you can be lazing by the pool.
The restaurants are superb. All cater for children and they are made to feel welcome, with no request being too much trouble. Our favourites being the Coal Pot, Big Chef Steakhouse and the Cliff at Cap. Having said that we ate out each evening and never had a 'bad' meal.
In short - if you want a spacious, peaceful and beautifully maintained villa, look no further than Chateau Devaux.
